Activities

We can offer you:

  • work experience
  • new skills
  • community involvement
  • interactive skills
  • health and safety awareness

and the chance to meet new people and make new friends!

We currently run the following weekly activities:

Allotment

on Shepherd Road

The allotment group maintains an allotment and members get involved in sowing, planting, weeding, watering and rotating crops.  They grow seasonal fruits and also work in the greenhouse and the potting shed.  This activity is a good way to keep fit and active and to learn about how plants develop and grow.

Art

at Eastbank Road

The art group creates their own interpretations of art using learned techniques and styles.  They use different tools and accessories including canvas, oils, watercolours and pastels.

Art and Craft

at the FCL office

This is an inclusive group which produces various craft items such as jewellery, money boxes, keyrings, suncatchers and felt art knitting.  It is a great way of socialising with friends in a relaxed environment.  Members are asked to contribute £1.50 per session to cover the costs of materials.

Baking Group

at the FCL Office

The baking group learn about healthy eating and food hygiene and have a hands-on session each week where they produce either a savoury or sweet dish to take home and enjoy.  This helps members to build on their domestic skills and give them confidence when choosing and preparing food.  Members are asked to contribute £3 per session to cover the cost of ingredients (this is usually payable in advance - £36 for a 12 week block).

Computer Group

at the FCL Office

Members of the group get the personal use of a computer for each session.  They learn keyboard skills and are instructed in how to use various internet search engines which can be used for researching areas of interest.  Printing is available for a small cost (payable to the library).

Drama

at Warton Village Hall

This group meets weekly and includes clients from providers other than Fylde Community Link.  Regular shows are performed at local high schools and recently the group have performed shows including "Coronation Street Old and New", "Bugsy Malone" and "Robin Hood".  Disabled access facilities are available at the venue.

Gardening

in the community

The gardening group maintains gardens within Fylde Community Link and the local community.  The group undertakes mowing, weeding, planting, hanging baskets, pruning, landscaping and jet washing.  This activity is a great way to keep fit and healthy and enjoy the great outdoors!

Photography

at the FCL office

Members of the group access the local community taking photos of buildings (Lytham Windmill is always a favourite!), wildlife and scenery.  Sometimes members enter their photos into local competitions and the FCL Photography Group won the Pride of the Fylde Award in 2012.  The group also visits photography exhibitions.

Recycling

in the community

The recycling group is based in Kirkham at Progress Business Park.  They collect cardboard, paper, scrap metals and textiles from local businesses and domestic homes.  They have a baling machine to bale the cardboard.  This activity is a great opportunity to develop social skills and to contribute towards looking after the environment.

Woodwork

at Eastbank Road

The group has produced many different pieces of work including plants, bird boxes and tables for retail.  Members have their individual choice of making items such as CD racks, occasional tables, mosaic picture frames and boxes using equipment under supervision.

Use your Direct Payments/Personalised Budgets to purchase a place within our activities.  Based on individual requirements, shared support may be applicable resulting in value for money.  For example, 7 hours support for 3.5 hours cost.

If you are interested in becoming involved with any of these activities or if you have any ideas for activities which we do not currently provide please contact us.
